Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS)

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has an exciting employment opportunity for a Specialty Agriculture and Direct Marketing Manager in the Division of Marketing. Under the leadership of the Division Director, this position develops and implements an integrated program to facilitate the growth in specialty agriculture and direct marketing opportunities including agritourism, farmers markets, roadside stands, pick-your-own, CSA's, organic agriculture, and niche marketing. This position involves considerable interactions with agricultural industries, outside organizations, federal and state authorities and the general public to develop and communicate program services and best practices for promoting growth and development of Virginia agriculture. Duties will include creating marketing programs to maximize exposure of VA’s agricultural products to increase consumer awareness and assist direct marketers; managing division funding allocations for direct marketing; and targeting effective coordination of media tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess a BS degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, Communications, Agriculture or a related field; however, an equivalent amount of relevant experience and education is acceptable. Successful candidates will demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in developing, directing and managing direct marketing programs and projects. Qualified candidates will demonstrate proven leadership and managerial skills related to human resource management and teambuilding, budget and fiscal controls. Proficiency using Personal Computers is preferred. Requires exceptional oral/written communication and public relations skills and a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with industry, special interest groups, government officials and consumers. Incumbent will enhance agricultural economic development across Virginia and successful candidates will demonstrate experience identifying specialty products with market potential and opportunities for expansion of direct marketing ventures such as farmers markets, roadside stands, CSA's, pick-your-own operations, and agritourism ventures. A valid Virginia Driver’s License is required. Hiring Salary: Pay Band 6, commensurate with relevant experience.
