CFSC INTERN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:

Fall Internship, Washington, DC Office

The Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) is dedicated to building strong, sustainable, local and regional food systems that ensure access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to all people at all times. The Community Food Security Coalition's policy work, based in Washington, DC, seeks federal resources to foster community-based alternatives to the global food system. CFSC had advocated to create and reauthorize federal programs that support local, healthy and affordable food for low-income communities in connection with support for local and regional farmers and food systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Supporting CFSC’s efforts to build a network of community food security advocates in support of federal legislation and implementation policy
  • Assisting with the creation of advocacy and education materials, including action alerts, briefing papers and talking points to support CFSC’s policy campaigns and education work
  • Conducting research to create support for CFSC’s policy campaigns and education work
  • Some administrative work including organizing mailings, letter drops and preparing for meetings
  • Supporting direct advocacy efforts for CFSC’s legislative priorities, including, but not limited to promotion of Farm to School and other local procurement efforts, Community Food Projects competitive grant program, creation of local food infrastructure, support for small and socially disadvantaged farmers, and other efforts to link small farmers and sustainable agriculture with low-income communities that need better access to healthy, local affordable food

Strong writing and communication skills are essential, experience with grassroots organizing or policy campaigns a plus. Experience with agriculture policy, food policy or food systems preferred but not required. Attention to detail and ability to work in fast-paced legislative atmosphere are important as well. Willingness and ability to learn quickly a must. Modest stipend provided, depending on education and experience.
